In 2001 I graduated from Dundee-Crown High School. Going back there 15 years later, so much has changed, and so much is still the same. I was invited by Mr. Bill Petersen, who has been teaching in District 300 for over twenty years, to come speak to his Law and American History classes.
Speaking to high school students has got to be one of the hardest audiences you can have. Making politics sound interesting to young people is certainly a fun challenge, and I think the results were very positive.
There were many questions asked by the students, and many were especially curious about the Longmeadow Toll Bridge that only a few had heard of. Some classes heard anecdotes that Mr. Peterson has from when I was a young student (he was my teacher in 8th grade at CMS), all of the students were very courteous and kind. We also had a handful of students sign up for our canvassing Street Team!
A big thank you to Mr. Petersen and all of his students, it was a pleasure and an honor to come and spend time with you and hopefully inspire some of today's youth to look a little deeper into the local political scene, and maybe even one day get involved.
